I have come to love Johnny Cash through my Dad... My Dad has been a fan of the man in black for many years. I grew up hearing his music and now it is in my soul forever... I took my Dad to see the movie "Walk the Line" and we loved it. We thought it was a good movie.
In my opinion Johnny Cash was a real man who was not afraid to share his humanity with the world. I admire him. Some of his songs deeply touch my heart and bring tears to my eyes.
I look forward dot being part of this tribe.

Sincerely,
Ayshah

Hey, Ayshah! Your enthusiasm is wonderful. Thanks for joining us.

I saw the movie on DVD recently and hated it, because it portrayed him as a real drag without much sense of fun. Maybe he was, esp. as a drug addict; but when I listen to his songs, esp. the songs he penned and were recorded in the prisons, he sounds like fun. It also didn't show how he composed his songs (except for Walk the Line), or his friendship with Shel Silverstein (who wrote A Boy Named Sue), which I think is important. And Joaquin Phoenix doesn't sound like him at all, esp. when he gives that feeble solo at Sun Records. (Also, didn't Sam Phillips tell Johnny to come back in a year and after he'd gotten some experience?) And Phoenix at 5'8", is one short guy. At 6'1 1/2" tall, Johnny had a presence, and Phoenix doesn't convey that.

Thank you for the warm welcome :o)

In my opinion the struggles in his life the movie portrayed show the world his humanity... Like June I have stood by my husband through incredibly difficult times. My husband was not a drug addict so I don't know much about that per say however my husband had to give up his Army career due to a back injury and believe me those were rough days on both of us until he was able to accept this lifestyle change. In the movie when Johnny calls June an angel and she expresses that she is not an angel just someone who cares about him - my husband grabbed hold of my hand with tears in his eyes - being the tough Army type guy he is that is rare for tears to show. It is b/c he and I experienced a similar moment in our relationship when he thanked me for standing by him and told me that I mean the world to him... So in my opinion the rough times in Johnny's life shown in the movie make him more of a man to admire and respect.
I love that Johnny went to prisons and performed. I thought that scene in the movie where he performs at Folsom was great. My Dad, husband, and I all love it in the movie when he replies to the observation that he looks like he is going to a funeral b/c he is dressed in black "well maybe I am" - he had a strong will along with a compassionate heart and great talent I think the movie does the real Johnny justice.

I think Phoenix did a great job and the Oscar should have been his.

i agree with you on that one. i saw 'capote' and philip s. hoffman does a great job as capote but i don't think the oscar should have been his.

i thought david strathairn did a better job than hoffmann in "good night and good luck".

im glad that reese won for her portrayal of june. that was a great performance.

Reese was great! I was happy she got an Oscar and that she said something kind about Joaquin Phoenix when she went up to receive her award.

I adore David Straitharn. Was really neat to see him in The Sopranos (and to laugh at Tony and Tony Jr. saying his character was a homo). Such a handsome man he is.
